Success or defeat? You choose.

By |January 2nd, 2018|

Most people take advantage of a new year to start new things or quit things they have been doing. It isn’t that there is any special magic in the start of a new year; it’s just that by the turning of the clock from one year into the next most people believe there is a real opportunity to start again. There is a sense of being given a new slate to write on; of being able to put the previous year behind (especially if it was a difficult one) and hope for a better year. I don’t know what 2017 was like for you but if you want to be able to look back at 2018 in 12 months’ time with satisfaction that you have done better then something is going to have to change. The trouble is, most of us don’t handle change very well. […]

How resilient are you?

By |November 8th, 2017|

Last month I had the privilege of running a workshop for doctors training to become General Practitioners. It was great fun and while I was the trainer/facilitator, I learned an awful lot about what it was like to walk in their shoes. We touched on various topics including time management and team working and we […]

Is it ever the right time to quit?

By |June 20th, 2017|

I like to think my nature is mostly an optimistic person. I am certainly single-minded in most pursuits and will generally stick to a project for as long as it takes. Reading biographies of successful entrepreneurs, human rights activists, inventors or educators, there is often the notion that it has been a long, hard road […]

Want to be more productive?

By |May 8th, 2017|

There always seems to be so much to do, and I am constantly looking at ways of being more productive. Many of the clients I have worked with have wanted help with doing more in less time. That is essentially what increased productivity is. Instead of busyness with much to show at the end of […]

I have failed many times…..

By |April 6th, 2016|

One of the first businesses I started failed within the first 12 months. My friend and I had this wonderful idea about a clothing range for a specific market. We were completely passionate about the concept and the customers we would be serving. We never for one moment thought we would not succeed (perhaps we were naïve). We did everything right that we could do – or so we thought.

A few months into the business, however I realised that I was going to have to make the difficult decision to shut it all down.

Why I don’t Make New Year Resolutions

By |January 11th, 2016|

So it’s nearly two weeks into 2016. What a year 2015 was! There were highs and lows as I am sure some of you have had too, but I hope that like me, you celebrated the highs and learned what you could during the lows, not letting them keep you down.

Well after a holiday period of way too much to eat and drink, many people start the New Year with what has become popularly known as New Year Resolutions. This invariably includes making a list of things that you will begin to do as well as things that you will try not to do any longer. Not surprisingly, weight loss and getting organised top the list of resolutions that people make. This list is usually inspired by a feeling of what we should be doing or as the case may be – not doing. Here’s where things start to go downhill very quickly – ‘shoulds’ and ‘ought tos’ never inspired anyone – for very long. Here’s why. […]

Success Slowly

By |March 3rd, 2015|

The current world we live in is very fast paced. Things are changing more quickly than one ever imagined and technology is advancing faster than most of us can keep up with. While most of this is good, there is the temptation for us to expect everything else to move just as quickly. As someone […]

5 Keys to Success in your Business

By |February 4th, 2015|

Starting and running a business is hard work. If you are already running your own business you probably have experience of the challenges that entrepreneurs face. When I left the practice at which I was the lead GP partner, I was full of excitement at what the future held for me. Yes, there was a […]
