Imagine creating the life you really want

Are you

  • at the crossroads, wondering which path to choose?
  • questioning the direction your life is taking right now?
  • ready for change but still need to define what is the right change for you?
  • looking for affordable and effective support to make these changes?

You're not alone. I've worked with many people who've been in the same situation as you and have successfully created changes in their lives. Click here to read some of their stories.

My clients tell me that coaching works because it provides a structure for change, facilitates deep personal learning and, through its accountability structure, eliminates procrastination. Having worked with coaches myself, I know that this last part is of critical importance. A coach not only supports and encourages you, they hold you accountable for what you said you were going to do.

The Coaching Process

After someone has chosen me to be their coach, I email a package to get the reflection process started. (Click here to take a look at my intake form). The first session usually lasts about 2 hours and, if possible, is conducted in person. Coaching then usually continues over the telephone, and a standard format is every 2 weeks for an hour.

If you enter a coaching relationship with me, you can expect to participate in various exercises and conversations that are designed to help you get to know yourself better and deepen your believe in yourself and your abilities. Where appropriate, I share theories, exercises and articles that contribute to your learning and growth, as a learning partner rather than a teacher.

From this foundation, you will make choices and create goals and action plans, and then choose how you want to handle being accountable. The path to learning is through inquiry, reflection and experience, and the changes you make will be sustainable ones.

Identification of unique strengths and skills

We often take for granted the unique strengths and skills that make us who we are. When we become grounded in our strengths, we can intentionally leverage them to help us achieve our goals. Take the VIA Signature Strengths Survey to identify your top 5 strengths.

Identification of personality type

Assessments are not only fun to take - becoming more aware of our traits and characteristics, and how our mind works, is critical in self-development. Click here to take some on-line assessments.

Articulation of personal vision and purpose

In The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People, Steven Covey talks about "beginning with the end in mind". Everything starts with a dream and having a clear picture of what it is that you truly desire is the most important part of the change process. Start with this simple visioning exercise to help you get clear on where you want to be.

Exploration of the Inner Critic

Do you live with a consistently negative, nagging voice inside of your head? One that questions your abilities chastises you for every little mistake and downplays your accomplishments? Or one that gently persuades you that it’s best to do nothing, stay put, stay safe? We may all have Gremlins, but some people seem to have quieted theirs so effectively that their impact on their life is mercifully limited. Here are some strategies for quieting your Gremlin.

Personal goal-setting

I believe that designing effective actions and planning goals is critical to realizing desired changes. My clients don't just talk about changes, they achieve them. More than that, I believe a coach can really deliver value when they encourage the client to leave their comfort zone to achieve more than what they thought was achievable, to plant giant stakes in the ground, to achieve breakthroughs that make a really big difference. Click here for some goal-setting exercises.

Identification of assumptions and beliefs

We all tell ourselves stories of how the world works - it's a very efficient way to get through daily life. However, sometimes our assumptions and beliefs are negative, non-productive and limiting. As a coach, I listen very carefully for these mental models and help clients become more aware of the stories they are telling themselves. Read more about mental models.

Exploration of the change process

Most of us have change of some sort on our agenda. We want to get more business, work smarter, feel less stressed, get on better with our kids, lose weight, etc. So what is the most effective way to generate positive change? . Read more about change.

Energy drains and energy gains

After you engage in an activity, do you feel energized? Do you feel more alive? Or do you feel drained, depressed, or less enthusiastic than before? Becoming more aware of what drains us and what energizes us, and then using that awareness to intentionally choose activities, is a way to find more balance in our lives. Read more.

Making time for what's important

There are only 24 hours in a day, but are you spending them in a way that reflects your true priorities. Print off some tools that will help you track, and assess, where your time goes.
