I know you’ve heard this before, but it will do no harm to hear it again.  Especially as it could change your business or career.  When Napoleon Hill wrote his book, Think and Grow Rich, there was not much known about the field of neuroscience.  Since then, there have been leaps and bounds in this area and a greater understanding of how the brain actually works.  The bottom line is, you become what you think.  So if you don’t like what you are becoming, then change what you think.

In the world of Coaching, we talk about limiting beliefs and how they can stop you from making progress in your work or personal life.  A limiting belief is a false belief that a person acquires as a result of making an incorrect conclusion about something in life. Limiting beliefs stop you from living to your full potential.  It’s time to do something about these saboteurs and begin to see the success you really want.  You can fool everyone else but yourself.  Sooner or later how you see yourself will eventually show up.

How does this affect your business or career?  If you think you’ll never succeed at what you do, guess what, you wont.  If you think you don’t have what it takes to see your dreams become reality, chances are, they will remain dreams forever.  It is as simple as that.  What can you do instead?

  • Do some soul searching.  What are some beliefs you hold about yourself or others that are not serving you well?
  • Ask yourself, ‘how did I come about this way of thinking?’  It could be the environment in which you were brought up, or experiences you may have had as children.
  • Decide what alternative beliefs will serve you better in your business, career or relationships.
  • Begin to replace your old beliefs with these new ones.  It won’t happen immediately and you need to stick with it but gradually you will notice things begin to change (even your actions will change).
  • Be accountable to someone you trust and respect.  Give them permission to stop you when you start reverting to your old beliefs and acting them out again.
